About

The creation of the King James or Authorized Version of the Bible (1611) was initiated by the newly crowned James I and carried out by scholars and clergymen in Oxford and Cambridge. The intention was to provide a single English language Bible founded on Greek and Hebrew originals which would be used throughout the whole Church. It is arguably the most influential single document for English literary studies.
