Historic Map Works Library Edition: Browse

Historic Map Works™ Library Edition is one of the most extensive digital map collections available, with over 1.5 million high-resolution, full color historic maps.


With Historic Map Works™ Library Edition, you can:

  • Browse and search more than 1.5 million records.
  • Navigate the collection using an intuitive interface.
  • Easily examine multiple maps for towns and cities through numbered thumbnail views.
  • Review key and index maps to find specific streets and buildings.
  • Search by address or GPS coordinates.
  • Magnify maps for greater detail.
  • Download and print maps (in whole or part) in the Adobe® PDF format. 


Map Views

Browse Historic Map Works™ Library Edition by clicking on the region of interest on the interactive map or by clicking the button for one of the content types you are interested in: "Maps and Atlases of the World," "Directories," or "Special Collections."  

Interactive Map - Click on the region of interest to view a list of countries which have maps, atlases, directories, etc.

Maps and Atlases of the World - Click the "Maps and Atlases of the World" button to view two tabs, Maps and Atlases, listing all contents. Click the title of the map or atlas of interest.

When browsing Atlas collections, note that some may have more than one map associated and some of those collections may contain illustrations and/or overlay options denoted by a pen nib and globe respectively. The number of available maps in each atlas collection is noted in the second column, labeled Maps.

To view standalone maps or directories that align with the location being browsed, click the Maps or Directories tab when visible.
