The results of searching texts are displayed on the Texts Results page. This page allows you to access the full text of all the works containing your search term in the databases to which you are subscribed.
All Texts results are sorted by relevance.
1. Results Summary
The results summary is the first thing which appears at the top of all results pages. It tells you the number of results your search has retrieved and lists your search terms and the fields you entered them into, including all variant forms and spellings if one or both of those search limits were selected as part of the search query limits.
2. Modify and Save Search
All results pages include a Modify search link so that you can make changes to your search to improve and refine the results you will retrieve. The Modify search link is available in the tool bar just below the results summary. Click the link to return to your original search page which displays the terms and limits you entered when you submitted the search. You can make the changes you need and click the Search button to run a new search.
You can store your search in the Saved Searches area of My Archive for use at a later date by clicking the Save search link (shown in the toolbar at the top of the results page). You will be prompted to give your search a name so that you can easily identify it in your list of saved searches.
3. Hit Count Summary and Results Tabs
Use the Show hit count summary link to reveal a summary of the number of hits and the number texts they appear in for each category of text.
The results page is divided into tabs: one for each of the main Texts genres/categories Poetry, Drama, Prose and Literary Works in Journals. To view the results click the tab for the relevant genre/category. The number of texts containing matches for your search terms is displayed at the top of each category tab. If the library also subscribes to Early English Books Online (EEBO), it will appear as an additional category tab.
Click a tab to display results for that category.
4. Results Display
The results are displayed in relevancy rank order from most relevant to least.
The author name, quill icon that links to the author profile, and the title is displayed along with the number of hits found within the indexing and the text. A small section of text is also visible with the hit term(s) highlighted. Click the title of the work to read the text.
The box below displays an example of the text with hit term highlighting and the blue arrow buttons to quickly navigate through the text to additional hit terms.
