Sample Searches

NOTE:  MEDLINE is a bibliographic database.  Full text content limiters are not recognized by the search engine but full-text may appear in results if you are licensed to another ProQuest resource where an item is available in full-text, or if an item is available open access. 

Basic Search      

You are looking for recent information about Alzheimer's disease.

  • Type Alzheimer AND disease into the Basic Search box or use the widget on the left.  
  • Based on the large amount of results that are retrieved, it is a good idea to refine your results using the Narrow results by feature.
  • From the Narrow results by, go to the Publication Date limit and select the last bar in the chart to choose items published this decade.
  • Go to the top of the results page to the Sorted by pull-down menu (just above the Limit to) and re-sort your items by Most recent first.
  • To begin reviewing your results, click the Preview link available on each record to view the major fields of the record.
  • For additional record details, select the Abstract/Details link under each record to view the full record.

 

Advanced Search

 You are looking for recent full-text articles about any research conducted on Lactose intolerance in adults

  • From the Advanced Search page and the first row, type lactose AND intolerance and then select Abstract from the first pull-down menu.
    • In the second row, choose AND from the left pull-down menu, then type adult OR middle age and select Abstract from the pull-down menu on the right
  • Click Search.
  • At the Results page go to the left side facets and then to Publication Date. Select the last bar in the chart to choose items published this decade.
  • To begin reviewing your results, click on the Preview link available on each record to view the major fields of the record.
  • For additional record details, select the Abstract/Details link under each record to view the full record.
  • Mark any records that interest you to save, print, email, cite, export, save to your My Research account, or to view selected items later.
  • From the top of the results page (under the search box) select Save search / alert to create and receive an email when new results are loaded into Medline that meet your search criteria.
  • Enter your email address, choose the email format, and schedule your alert based on when you would like to receive an email of your results and how long you would like the alert to last.
  • Click create alert.

Advanced Search

You are looking for reports from the last decade on Autism or Pervasive Developmental Disorder

  • On the first search field at the top of the screen, type Autism and select All subjects & indexing -- SU from the right side pull-down menu.
  • On the second search field, select OR from the left pull-down menu.  Type Pervasive Developmental Disorder in the search field and select All subjects & indexing from the right side pull-down menu.
  • In the Document type box below the search fields, check the option for Case Reports.
  • In the Age group box below the search fields, check the options for Preschool child (2-5 years) and Chile (6-12 years).
  • In the Document status box, check the option for Select all (If desired, check fewer options).
  • In the results, look at the facets on the left side bar.  Use the sliding date bar to limit results to 2015 to the present by sliding the left icon forward toward the right icon, then clicking Update.
