Sample Searches

Below are several examples of search you may wish to try in order to familiarize yourself with the search and browse capabilities of Women's Magazine Archive

Please note that before conducting a new search, you should click "Clear form" to remove previous search terms and limits.

Basic Search   

You want to see how the subject of war was treated during World War II and the Vietnam era by comparing content.  

  1. Type:  war
  2. Click:  search
  3. Use the slider bar under the publication date to go to 1940-1950 and then again for 1942-1946.
  4. Use the Document Type filter in the left column to filter to required document type

Repeat steps for the Vietnam Era (1961-1973).

Advanced Search

You are interested in seeing advertising for Ivory Soap over the years to see how it has changed. 

  1. Type:  "ivory soap" in the search box
  2. Select Document Type:  Advertisement
  3. Click:  Search
  4. Use the SORT option at the top of the left column to put the results into chronological order.

Publications

You are interested in the topic of integration and how it has been represented to families. 

  1. Click on the Publications link
  2. Scroll down to Parents magazine and click on the title
  3. Use the box "Search within this publication" and type:  integration
  4. Use the SORT option at the top of the left column to put the results into chronological order.
