Ancestry® Library Edition continues to offer two Flash-based image viewers, Basic and Advanced.  Switch to these using the Tools> Switch to basic viewer option. Once in the Basic Viewer you can switch between the Basic and Advanced versions. Both viewers allow the user to:

  • Expand the image lengthwise with the “Image Only” option.

When you switch from the Interactive viewer, the Advanced viewer is the default, unless the computer in use does not have Flash installed. The Advanced viewer is based on Adobe Flash, allowing it to work on the majority of browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and others). In addition to the above listed options, the following are available in the Advanced viewer:

·    The Zoom options allow for more precise zoom capabilities:

o   Fit Image

o   Fit Width

o   Fit Height

o   Full-size

o   Custom: Percentages of zooming from 25% to 200% using scroll wheel on mouse

  • Magnify will employ a cross-hair cursor which, by holding the left mouse button down will give a zoomed view of the area of the image where the cursor is.
  • Rotate allows the user to rotate the image clockwise in 90 degree increments.
  • Mirror flips the image horizontally.
  • ‘Print’ and ‘Save’ options give the user the opportunity to carry out either of those functions from the library. It is recommended that the user change the print aspect from Portrait to Landscape when printing census images and that the user Save to a portable flash drive that they carry with them rather than the library computer.
