The checkbox that controls the activation of the Research Assistant for your library is available in Libcentral under Settings > Systems. It is checked by default. Uncheck to disable. After making your selection, save your settings.
The new Wait List feature means patrons will be able to place a hold for 1U and 3U titles in use. Please see the Ebook Central guide for end users for more details explaining how it works for patrons.
The Wait List is not activated by default. Before activating the Wait List, please do check the Wait List powerpoint presentation and FAQ, to help you decide if this feature is right for your library.
You’ll want to check the Access Permissions settings in Libcentral for your owned titles. If Extended Access is set to “Mediate” or “Automate STL/Purchase” for 1U and 3U books, the Wait List will not be activated.
In Libcentral, click on Settings and from the dropdown menu select System Settings. Select the check box next to “Wait List”. Also select Hold Period. The hold period length is how long you’re going to give the patron to claim their hold before it expires. You must click on Save Settings for this change to take effect.
To get to the Wait List Dashboard, select Wait List under the Collections drop down menu. The Wait List Dashboard will include a list of the titles that currently have patrons in the queue. They are sorted by the highest number of patrons waiting.
From here, you can see how many patrons are waiting for a particular titles, your holding types, if an upgrade is available, and a link to the full record page (purchase options) if you would like to upgrade the title.
Let’s click on purchase options for the first title in our Wait List.
By clicking on the purchase options you will be taken to the full record of the title. From here you can see purchase and upgrade options.
By deselecting the checkbox next to Wait List, you can disable the Wait List Feature.
Click on Save Settings at the bottom of the screen.
You will get a pop up window confirming that you’d like to proceed.
Once you click confirm, any users actively on a Wait List will be notified via email that their hold has been cancelled. The button will no longer appear in the book details page on Ebook Central.
Access Permissions are settings that determine how patrons view, loan and download titles. In Access Permissions, you can decide whether you will offer mediation of titles, and under what circumstances; specify settings for short-term loans (STL) and purchases, determine if autopurchases are available, and set price limits. Demand-Driven Acquisition (DDA) can be turned off in Access Permissions.
Default Access
In this Access Permission, permission ID can be added and Default permission can be edited but cannot be deleted.
General Tab
Details
The settings in the General tab apply to all of your holdings – owned, subscribed and DDA selected titles.
Visibility
Visibility settings control what the patrons can discover and access in Ebook Central.
• Owned & Subscribed – Patrons can only discover and access titles that the library has purchased or subscribes to.
• Owned, Subscribed & DDA Selected – Patrons can access owned and subscribed titles and titles that the library has selected for DDA access (i.e.: non-owned titles set to visible).
• Entire Catalog – Patrons can access the complete catalog. All DDA and non-owned titles will be visible. All Owned titles will be accessible, except Owned titles that have had visibility manually set to “Off” in LibCentral.
• None – Used to turn visibility off for all titles temporarily. This can be useful if the library is performing maintenance etc.
General
The current Autopurchase default and purchase hierarchy is displayed. To modify the hierarchy, click the "Edit" button. This will open a pop-up modal where you can sort the hierarchy to your preferred order, see image below.
When the Permit Mediated Purchase Requests is set to "Yes", patrons will be able to request that the library purchase at title when completing the request form.
The STL/Autopurchase Limit per patron setting allows the library to limit the number of autopurchases or STLs a patron is allowed per day or per week.
Downloads
This setting is used to allow or disallow full downloads of titles by patrons from within Ebook Central. There are a variety of reasons why full download is disallowed, or only available via the Online Reader. This setting is related to Full Download only, and will not impact individual Chapter Download.
Owned Tab
The Owned settings control access to your owned and subscribed holdings.
Book Level Permission
Book Level Permissions can be set for individual owned ebooks. This can be found on the individual book detail page, at the bottom.
Open a title’s Full Record to apply book level permissions. For 1-user and 3-user books you are able to add hours as well as days. Entering “0” in the access model field will disable loans or downloads for the title.
Note: The book level download length will not override the Access Permissions if:
• Downloads are disabled at the institution level
• 3-user or 1-user read online access is preserved for all users in access permissions
Extended Access
Extended Access options help you to prevent turnaways when owned Non-Linear, 3-user and 1-user titles are in use.
Extended Access is a set of rules on how to handle situations where there is maximum use on an owned title and another patron needs it. The library can pre-determine whether to initiate a just in time short-term loan, upgrade, or purchase another copy. So rather than turning the patron away, the access can be granted according to the pre-established rules. Alternatively, you may choose to mediate access to owned titles that are in use. If turnaway is selected, them make the Turnaway alert active, so the can monitor the recorded turnaway. If mediated is selected all access is mediated. For more information refer to the HELP Tab (Setting -Access Permission) in the Libcentral, or contact training@proquest.com for a consultation with your local Training and Consulting Partner.
DDA tab
The settings in the DDA tab control autopurchases, STL behaviour and mediation of DDA titles. DDA titles are titles that your library does not own but have been selected--through profiling or manually in LibCentral--to be available to patrons
The Default Access Type is selected to control how patrons access DDA titles:
For more information refer to the HELP Tab (Setting -Access Permission) in the Libcentral, or contact training@proquest.com for a consultation with your local Training and Consulting Partner.
There are a number of automated email alerts generated by LibCentral and the patron interface. For example, there are alerts when items are purchased, when turnaways occur, or in response to a variety of patron requests. These alerts can be managed under the 'Settings' tab. Click on the Alerts link to manage manage the different types of alerts.
Each alert can be configured to be sent to any staff member with a LibCentral account. To do this click on an individual Turnaway Alert link to edit the turnaway notification alert settings, and to view a sample of the email which you will receive when this alert is triggered.
At the Turnaway alert setting page, select the emails that will be receiving the turnaway notification. You can select multiple email recipients.
Patron alerts are sent directly to patrons when accounts are created, books/accounts are requested, and requested books/accounts are approved or rejected.
