Early Modern Collection

Early Modern Books covers printed material from the British Isles and Europe for the Early Modern period (1450-1700). An integrated search across both Early English Books Online (EEBO) and Early European Books (EEB) allows scholars to view materials from over 225 source libraries worldwide.

 

The collection consists of two distinct databases:

  • Early English Books Online (EEBO) contains over 146,000 titles listed in Pollard & Redgrave's Short-Title Catalogue (1475-1640) and Wing's Short-Title Catalogue (1641-1700) and their revised editions, as well as the Thomason Tracts (1640-1661) collection and the Early English Books Tract Supplement. Libraries possessing this collection find they are able to fulfill the most exhaustive research requirements of graduate scholars in many subject areas, including English literature, history, philosophy, linguistics, theology, music, fine arts, education, mathematics, and science.
  • Early European Books (EEB) is aiming to provide access to all works printed in Europe from the early modern period, before 1701. It is a continually growing series of collections, drawn from the Danish Royal Library, the National Central Library in Florence, the National Library of France, the National Library of the Netherlands, and the Wellcome Library in London.

The ProQuest Historical Periodicals collection offers subscription access to a selection of foundational content from ProQuest’s larger and more expansive historical periodical and magazine archive portfolio.

ProQuest History Vault

History Vault provides access to millions of primary sources, cross-searchable, full-text/full-image documents on the most widely studied topics in 19th and 20th-century American history. The vast majority of the content in History Vault is not available elsewhere. The content in History Vault is perfect for researchers in history, African American studies, women’s studies, political science, social sciences, sociology, and international studies.

U.K. History Collection

ProQuest’s multi-format collections uniquely reveal how U.K. history evolved over time, and how it has influenced – and continues to influence – people and events around the world. Primary source materials including state papers, royal journals, trench magazines, colonial records, and influential periodicals enable exploration of six centuries of history from the early modern period through the present day, spanning such topics as governance, global expansion, royal affairs, wartime experiences, and cultural evolution. Researchers can explore significant events, including the reign of Elizabeth I, the Spanish Armada, Queen Victoria’s rule, World War I, and Britain’s colonial ventures.

U.S. History Collection

ProQuest’s U.S. History Collections feature a wide-ranging variety of primary sources from pivotal periods in North American history, covering topics such as the early colonial period, the Civil War, the Gilded Age, and early immigrant experiences.

Materials include letters, diaries, memoirs, historical documents, and videos. These engaging firsthand accounts span more than 400 years and provide in-depth insights into the people, social dynamics, and political attitudes that have shaped North America.
